Saturday morning, up around 5 am: not much for brekkie (a few dry biscuits and a tea), but it does the job to get going. Meet-up in the village for a 6 am start (not easy finding the exact spot in the middle of the night!). There are five of us: Pete (the organiser) heading […]

BRM600 Somewhere Sometime
Easter in Australia means a four-day long weekend — so you’ve got to find something to keep yourself busy! Perfect timing, because there’s a whole series of BRMs (300, 400, 600, 1000 and 1200) starting out of Holbrook (about a three-hour drive from Canberra). Ibi’s keen for the 600, and that settles it — I’m […]

North Luzon 1300 LRM: Brevet of happiness.
Day 1 I was only lightly asleep when my alarm sounded at 2.15am. I’d given myself 45minutes to pack my room and be ready for the 3am start, I was still on Australia time (3hrs in front) so this felt easy. The first checkpoint lurked a polite 45 kilometers down the road, and a small […]

BRM 1000 Murrumbidgee Meander
BRM1000 Murrumbidgee Meander Saturday 14 February, 5am – off I set for the 1000km BRM organised by Pete Heal, “Murrumbidgee Meander.” Heading towards Yass along a road I know well, with a coffee stop at Kaffeine around 8:30am (I really should get myself a loyalty card!). After that, the road was less familiar (I came […]

Audax Alpine Classic – 2026 Ride Report
The 2026 Audax Alpine Classic The Audax Alpine Classic isn’t just one of Australia’s toughest rides, it’s also one of the best! While the original 200km course and 4,200m of climbing takes you through the most spectacular Alpine climbs, what makes this ride truly special is the camaraderie and Audax spirit that comes with it. […]

Audax QLD Big Fish 100
I took part in the Big Fish 100 organised by Audax Queensland, a 100 km mixed-terrain ride with over 60% gravel and 1,000 m of climbing. Starting and finishing at Big Fish Junction in Caboolture, the course featured everything from smooth champagne gravel to sandy stretches and a short hike-a-bike section, plus a fun bit of singletrack near Beerburrum. With great stops at Woodford, Glass House Mountains Lookout, and Beerburrum, it was a well-rounded ride on a scenic and varied course—big thanks to Joel K for organising.

Audax QLD Dirty Boonah
This past weekend I took on the 200km Dirty Boonah ride with Audax Queensland, a challenging ride with over 4000 metres of climbing, quiet country roads, and spectacular scenery. From river crossings and mountain backdrops to the camaraderie at the Dugandan Hotel, it was a ride full of challenge and reward. Dirty Boonah is easily my favourite gravel event of the year.
